'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith resumes clash with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he reminisces about the dramatic dying seconds of Swansea's stunning fightback victory against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. That match wrapped up with Galbraith picking up a supporter's spectacles following the post-goal scrum.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a powerful shot from outside the box, and the defender immediately hammered in the deflection before charging toward the East Stand to celebrate, with fans swarming the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The result capped an incredible recovery given the team had trailed 2-0 midway through the second half. In the celebrations, there was some collateral damage. He shared, "There was a spectator shouting out and Josh Key and I were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're people, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The victory booked a next round match at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith came close against at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with the London side in February. The athletic midfielder had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in stunning style, with a teammate's first-time shot from about way out going in via the woodwork and the City goalkeeper. Many argued that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've awarded it to him for attempting the shot from that range," commented Galbraith, who started in midfield before moving to right defensive wing after the team changed formation. That meant facing off against City's winger, with whom he swapped shirts, and the player was among the Manchester squad who paid tribute to the way the underdogs played positively.

Opponent's Class

"Physically they are very good but even the fundamentals and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," he explains. "It appears that they always find their target and they know how to manage and slow down a game. You can think you're all right and then abruptly they will just thread a ball between defenders without you even seeing. You have to be alert every second of the game. It requires a tough attitude and attention just to keep pace."

Swansea Move

The club were keen on Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to bring him in in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He made a name as a fans' favourite across a couple of years at Orient and has swiftly done the same in his new home. At Orient he joined forces once more with his former manager, who earlier gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in senior football on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a temporary move at lower division the Manchester club, before he permanently left Manchester United.

Growth Journey

"I was likely a bit naive going into senior level. I think numerous professionals would say under-23s football is entirely separate. Sometimes it feels like possession is exchanged without real physicality. You see few physical contests. Once you start playing men's games you have to adjust fast."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that growth for club and country, excelling for the Green and White Army, who remain in contention for the international competition next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has started the recent fixtures, including home and away encounters against a football powerhouse. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, gave him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he manipulates the ball and his ability to spot a decisive through ball.

Starting Out

It has been a remarkable path for the youngster from the Queens Park estate in the Belfast suburb, just outside Belfast, who was raised observing his dad, Stuart, also a engine room operator, play for a local club.

Manchester United Experience

Galbraith's sole appearance for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a European competition trip to the host city, where they competed on an synthetic surface and the stadium roof was shut owing to the weather of bitter cold. "This represented a long trip and it was chilly," he says, chuckling. "The days leading up, several youth players and I trained together, so that aided our adjustment. Just to travel with the first team and earn some playing time at the end was incredible."

Moving On

How hard was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged a teenager? "The decision proved quite easy, because I reached the point where I understood I couldn't establish myself at the top level. I'm extremely thankful for the years at the club but it got to the point where I believed I needed to go my own route, drop down the leagues and play professional soccer. Now I'm steadily climbing the ladder."

New Environment

It is the early part of the afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has a commitment at the early evening: a learner's exam, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Prior to relocating to the local area, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's nicknamed fun bus, a small coach driven by academy staff, the transport team, which ferries players to and from training and matches.

"My companions include a teammate, Ronald, an Ivorian player – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has got his license. It's enjoyable to interact with the guys but I'm hoping to be the following person to stop using the bus and driving. Franco enjoys practical jokes; he's frequently playing tricks."

Supporter Connections

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would blend in with supporters on London's Central line after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
