An individual who spiked sweets with sleeping medication and gave them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual offenses against two boys both nine and 10.

The defendant was detained after eight minors and a grown-up became sick at the location in the summer month.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

However, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

The defendant was remanded in custody before a further hearing on November 28th.

'Candy game'

Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, described the defendant's actions to the court.

She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he managed.

The man conducted a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor said, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and ask them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the young males "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She said Ruben had been able to explain this over a long period as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in recently.

The prosecutor continued: "Recently" his family member had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.

"They chose" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC stated items including infant oil, Vaseline and syringes were located, and his stepchild alerted the authorities about his suspicions.

She explained Ruben proceeded to play the "candy game" with six boys that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.

"The police had not gone out by that point," she stated further.

The oversight body, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the events.

The prosecutor explained the minors were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the stepson notified the law enforcement again.

She explained the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a space of five minors.
